Perfect your portrait photography at this on location shoot at the Welshot Photographic Academy Evening.  Our Models, wearing Dresses and Docs, and using the beautiful Llandudno Bay in North Wales as their backdrop, will be working hard to help you capture some stunning portraiture, using both off camera flash and natural, ambient lighting. We guarantee fun, frolics and frivolity as they pose for the camera, before and after the sun sets on the horizon, then, we've got a chance to do some low-light portraiture too!  Think portraits and piers, swishy dresses, stomping boots and biker jackets.  From posed portraits to those candid shots - this portrait photography session will help you learn a thing or three about lighting, hone your already gained skills or just help you to enhance your photographic portfolio. Our first Walking with Your Camera – A Guided Photo Walk with Helen Iles for 2023 and it’s a Welshot Mini Module with Masterclass – on this photographic event which takes place in the stunning Bodnant Gardens in North Wales we are going to help you get the best from your camera. In our Welshot masterclass you will learn the photographic technique of ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) and learn how to compose your images. Walking with your camera is about being in the great outdoors and capturing the surroundings in your camera. From long exposures to abstract water compositions to macro and close-up photography, capturing the flora and fauna, this day has it all for the photographer.

Dangerous Liaisons – A Welshot Themed Photo-Shoot

Dangerous Liaisons - Scandal, Intrigue, Mystery and Beauty - all of which surround the Women who will be portrayed by our Models in this Welshot Themed Photo-Shoot.  Covering eras from the mid 18th century to the 1950's - this Welshot inspired themed photo-shoot will portray at least four historical/fictitious, often infamous, Women - two of which can be seen here. Mrs Lovett from Sweeny Todd and Marie Antoinette.

At this Welshot event, with at least four Models (Male and Female) we will be using costumes from different historical periods - Most of the costumes will be bespoke to Welshot, having been made, or adapted, by our Team Creative.

As well as our bespoke costumes, we will have at least four different, specifically printed backdrops, that are unique to Welshot – all with an array of props for you to use throughout the day, ensuring you will leave this event with images to be proud of.

Shortest Night 2023 – A Photographic Adventure in North Wales

Welshot Does… The Shortest Night 2023 - A Photographic Adventure in North Wales.  On this, our annual all night adventure we will be visiting the beautiful landscape of Anglesey and Snowdonia in North Wales, which is always a firm Welshot favourite and always has our delegates booking on the next years ‘Shortest Night’ adventure before breakfast (included) have been eaten at the end of the event. The not so short, night of photography, which is always held as close to the 21st June as possible starts by the side of Llyn Padarn (Llanberis Lake) deep in the heart of Snowdonia before moving on for a marathon photographic session visiting numerous locations. Sixteen hours (Yes, we can see the irony!) of photographic fun, friendship and getting creative with your camera will have you shooting everything from star trails to long exposures, from architecture to land and seascapes. Hunting for the magic blue bioluminescence will also be on the agenda.

Point of Ayr Lighthouse is the northernmost point of mainland Wales.  It is situated immediately to the north of Talacre in Flintshire, at the mouth of the Dee estuary.  It is to the southwest of the Liverpool Bay Area of the Irish Sea.  This is our location for the Welshot Roving Academy Evening and will provide the photographer with a wide variety of shooting opportunities.  Starting with a short nature ramble through natural habitats and sand dunes we will make our way towards the shoreline where the dramatic Point of Ayr Lighthouse will be our backdrop.  From making long exposures, capturing a sunset to macro photography, the only limitation will be your imagination.

Dance Portraiture on Location in Manchester - Off Camera Flash Photography

Join Team Welshot, Miss Ellie and her students of The Dance Company for a day of portrait and dance photography on location in the Castlefield area of Manchester.  Using Off Camera Flash and natural/ambient lighting we will be working in small groups with 1:1 and group tuition to help you learn the skills and techniques needed to capture stunning portraits, movement and action, and classical ballet poses.  Your backdrop to capture your images will be the vibrant Castlefields, from the viaduct arches to the Castlefield Bowl, from canals to bridges and even a Roman fortification, this location will provide you with a wide variety of shooting experiences.

Your Dancers will be wearing classical dance costumes, think tutus and floating, swishy dresses but we will also have some styled, themed costumes with lots of props and accessories - think Bonnie & Clyde, and other themes, which will lend itself perfectly to this location.  Your Dancers/Models will be both Male and Female of varying ages but all will be led by Miss Ellie - ensuring that you will get photographs that have been perfectly posed and technically correct. From En Pointe to jumps, from posed headshots to those tiny details - this unique day of dance photography will be sure to enhance your skill and technical level and your photographic portfolio.

Portrait Photography - Friday Night is Studio Night - July Session at the Welshot Creative Hub. Tonight our model is a trained dancer (ballet) who will be rocking the studio, in a wide variety of ballet poses, wearing a selection of authentic dance costumes (including tutus) and props.  You will be learning how to set-up, use and work the lighting specifically for full body portraiture. We will also be showing you how you can create your own simple but effective backdrops at home using easily sourced items as props without costing you a fortune. From learning how to pose your model to the best lighting (types of) and modifiers to use to make the images you want to create. From using props, backgrounds, and gels to understanding the correct settings, camera functions, lenses, and focal lengths to use for portraiture and studio photography.

At this Welshot Mini Module with Masterclass it is all about getting creative with our cameras.  During this creative seascape photography with Helen Iles and Team Welshot you will be shown how looking through the lens in a different way will have have you making a wide range of wonderful photos.  From using a lens balls, to learning about macro and close-up photography, the only limit at this photographic workshop will be your imagination. The masterclass session will have you making long exposures - capturing the landscape and seascapes around you.  From the 'Golden and Blue' hours this Welshot photographic event at Penmon, on the Isle of Anglesey will keep you and your camera busy, taking stunning images from before sunset to after the sun has gone down.

Frocks on Rocks – Fashion Photo-Shoot – Llandudno

Welshot Does... Frocks on Rocks.  This high-fashion photo-shoot has been a long standing annual event at Welshot, and each year, while we may have had a different theme, one thing has always remained the same - The seaside is ALWAYS our location and the 2023 event is no exception. Our theme for 2023 is... Vogue - 1940's & 1950's Fashion and our models will be dressed to the nines.   The end of the war saw the return of couture fashion designers like Christian Dior, Cristóbal Balenciaga, Coco Chanel, and Hubert de Givenchy, all of whom had a major impact in the style of the decade and at this Welshot Photo-Shoot our Models will be wearing all manner of clothing from full skirts, cinched waists, sloping shoulders, and high waisted pants, which will create hourglass silhouettes with masculine details - perfect to capture in your camera and a stunning image for your portfolio.  We are however, making one major change - we will be starting the days shooting after lunch and will continue until after the sun has gone down.  By making use of of the afternoon and evening light that Llandudno is famous for, you are going to be capturing our models using that natural glow as well as using off camera flash.
