Whether you are a photographer wanting to undertake a photo-shoot with a professional model or a photographer wanting to capture a family portrait, the challenges in photographing your model(s) can vary based on the specific circumstances of the shoot and the dynamics between you and your model(s). Overcoming these challenges requires a combination of technical proficiency, interpersonal skills, and creative vision.

Fashion Photography – 1960’s Themed Photo-Shoot – Mains Studio & Off Camera Flash

1960’s Fashion – is there anything more iconic? At this fashion (1960’s) photography event based at the Chester Crowne Plaza we will be using mains studio flash as well as off camera flash lighting to help you make images that you can be proud of.  Your models will be wearing the flamboyant clothing that this era was known for – from bright, bold prints and make-up to high heeled boots and beehive hairstyles! Shooting in a studio environment as well as using the hotel as your backdrop you will be working in small groups with one to one shooting time with your models.  Backdrops, props and a wide range of clothing will all be supplied by Welshot.  All you have to do is charge your batteries, grab your camera and come make some great photos.

Lighting Techniques for Studio Portraiture – Chester Photographic Academy Evening

This Lighting Techniques for Studio Portraiture – Chester Photographic Academy Evening event is for all photography enthusiasts who are wanting to learn about photographic lighting.  During the evenings workshop you will be using mains studio lights and off camera flash. Learning about lighting, and how it works, is the single most important skill to have when when it comes to your portrait photography. Working with our Welshot Models you will try you hand at Rembrandt, butterfly, side and split lighting.  You will be using grids, modifiers and getting creative, learning to see (and shoot) in black and white and working with coloured gels. This studio mains and off camera flash photography workshop will be taking place at The Chester Crowne Plaza.

Cosplay Meets Photography – Chester Photographic Academy Evening

It’s all about portraiture photography with a difference at this Welshot Photographic Academy Evening in Chester! If you want to learn about lighting and how to use it effectively for the different effects it can give you, then this is the session for you.  From using one light, two lights, then three, then four lights, you will learn how to “Build” your set, taking your photos as you go along and seeing the differing results that each stage gives you.  We will also be adding gels into the mix as well as modifiers.  If that’s not enough, your model(s) will be Cosplayers – dressed in unique costumes which will provide you with vibrant fun characters to capture in your camera while learning/honing your portraiture skills.  We can promise you that you will leave this photography adventure with having learnt a thing or three and a memory card full of images that you will be proud to have in your portfolio.

Oil Water and Cross Polarisation - Creative Photography

Creative Table-Top Photography – Chester Photographic Academy Evening

At this Welshot Photographic Academy Evening you will see that oil and water do mix!  You will also see how water, bokeh, smoke from incense sticks, and using old Cd’s can make for some great photos.  By learning how to make your own filters, create bokeh, and hone your flash techniques you will make and create water droplets which can make for stunning images or even artwork.  From Macro (or Close-Up) to using different camera settings and depth of field can give you a wide variety of different looks which will not only make your photography stand out but will also help build your portfolio.   Brilliant for stock images, or craft work if that’s your jam – learning the art of creative photography not only gets you thinking a little differently but it is also satisfying and almost mindfulness-like.  It will also, undoubtedly, learning more about your camera and how to use it in more ways than one.

Dangerous Liaisons - Mrs Lovett by Gill McGowan

Dangerous Liaisons – Scandal, Intrigue, Mystery and Beauty – all of which surround the Women who will be portrayed by our Models in this Welshot Themed Photo-Shoot.  Covering eras from the mid 18th century to the 1950’s – this Welshot inspired themed photo-shoot will portray at least four historical/fictitious, often infamous, Women – two of which can be seen here. Mrs Lovett from Sweeny Todd and Marie Antoinette.

At this Welshot event, with at least four Models (Male and Female) we will be using costumes from different historical periods – Most of the costumes will be bespoke to Welshot, having been made, or adapted, by our Team Creative.

As well as our bespoke costumes, we will have at least four different, specifically printed backdrops, that are unique to Welshot – all with an array of props for you to use throughout the day, ensuring you will leave this event with images to be proud of.

Food Styling & Photography - Chester Photographic Academy Evening

At the Food Styling & Photography – Chester Welshot Photographic Academy Evening you will learn learn hints, tips, techniques and the skills to take your food photography to the next level. By using a variety of lighting techniques, props and backgrounds you will learn how to style your food, and then, using in-camera composition, camera settings and functions you will make your images.  From still-life to flat-lay photography, from using creative photogenic angles to creating bokeh, from using depth of field to make crisp sharp images or blur your background – your main aim is to leave having learned a thing or three about food photography and have a selection of images worthy of any food magazine ready for your portfolio.

Film Noir – Themed Photo-Shoot, this Welshot event was postponed due to Covid 19 and subsequent lockdowns. Now that the Chester Crowne Plaza is fully open for events we have been able to reschedule this photographic workshop, and previously booked on delegates can look forward to a fun day of photography, props, working with a large cast of models and learn a thing or three about studio mains flash photography.
