It's back!  One of our most popular events with our Welshot Members - The Three Lighthouse Challenge on Anglesey - A WelshotRewards Day.  A very full day of fun, friendship and photography.  From sunrise at Penmon to sunset, at either the South Stack Lighthouse or Llanddwyn Island depending on conditions you are guaranteed to capture a wide variety of dramatic images.  From lighthouses to big skies, what more could the photographer want?  Our Three Lighthouse Challenge will see us circumnavigating the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales with our camera - getting creative with lens balls, long exposures and trying our hand at macro (clos-up) photography . Whether you are a beginner to photography, a seasoned enthusiast or someone who just likes being in the company of like-minded people, this day of photography will help YOU to get the best out of YOUR camera.

Portrait Photography – Friday Night is Studio Night – August Session at the Welshot Creative Hub

Tonight it is all about being out on location, shooting with off camera flash and using walls, textures and other architectural features such as stairways as your backdrops.  Our model will be sporting a number of different looks with at least two costume/outfit changes.  You will be learning how to use off camera flash lighting techniques outside on location to capture your portrait photos for your portfolio.  From headshots to full body portraiture images.  We will probably get the gels out too!

From learning how to pose your model to the best lighting (types of) and modifiers to use to make the images you want to create. From using props, backgrounds, and gels to understanding the correct settings, camera functions, lenses, and focal lengths to use for portraiture and studio photography.

With a nod to the great fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh, this Welshot fashion photography workshop in the historic Georgian Quarter of Liverpool will have you shooting cinematic and naturalistic portraits of our Model(s).  If you want to be really authentic, we will help you to look, see and shoot in black and white!  This photographic workshop will help you to develop, build on and hone your own original style of photography, something every photographer strives for.  We will be using natural and ambient lighting as well as off camera flash and you will learn how to balance the light, the models and your surroundings to tell a story.  Your models will be wearing a wide variety of fashion outfits, from power suits to flowing summer dresses with props and accessories to match.

While we can't guarantee a sunset, or that the stars will align and come out to play, we will help you to shoot in those-low-light conditions which will make for some dramatic images.

Creative Photography - An Adventure in Llanberis - Mini Module with Masterclass

Spend a day with Welshot in Llanberis deep in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales getting creative with your camera.  From landscapes to architecture, from wide lake-side vistas to macro and close-up photography this Welshot mini module with masterclass will have you thinking outside the box and have you making photos that you might have otherwise walked past.  We will also show you how learning how to "see" in black & white can give you a completely different look and feel to your images.  Our starting point will be the Llanberis Slate Museum which is full to the brim of photo opportunities - your aim will be to capture the historic, times gone by, often emotive atmosphere of this historic environment. Your masterclass will be learning how to shoot for HDR (High Dynamic Range) using the interiors of the museum before the one-to-one and group tuition takes place.  After the museum we have the beautiful Lyn Padarn lakeside to explore, from quarries to castles, from lonely trees to mountain ranges.  This day of photography has it all for the photographer.

One Face - Five Ways - Headshot Portraiture - Llandudno Photographic Academy Evening

Tonight at the Llandudno Photographic Academy Evening it's all about Headshot Portraiture - shooting in the studio as well as out on location.  You will be creating five completely different looks from your model(s) using a wide variety of photographic and lighting techniques.  From creating silhouettes to using gels.  From shooting in black and white to creating bokeh in your portraits, from shooting in the Golden/Blue Hour to using a single light - the only limiting factor will be your creativity.  We will be using props such as car windows, guitars, mirrors, hats and scarves and you will even learn how to use the surroundings around as your background to your advantage.  Studio mains flash, off camera flash and natural light will, again, help you to create differing looks to your photographs.  Using shadows, natural and created in the studio will also help you to be creative and think outside the box while you make some really effective images.

Tonight at the Welshot portfolio building session it is all about the props, from clothes to furniture, from backgrounds to accessories.  Our model will be sporting a number of different looks with at least two costume/outfit changes.  You will be learning how to positron your furniture, props, accessories and lighting to compliment your model and give you the best possible composition for your photograph.  You will be using studio mains, and off camera flash lighting techniques in the studio itself as well as using the buildings features to capture your portrait photos for your portfolio.

Walking With Your Camera - A Guided Photo Walk with Helen Iles - Cwmorthin - North Wales

Grab your camera, pull on your walking boots, we're off on a photographic adventure deep in the heart of Snowdonia, North Wales. Photography and a nature ramble - What could be better for those who love nothing more than being outside with their cameras? On this Cwmorthin - Walking With Your Camera - A Guided Photo Walk with Helen Iles we will be walking from Tanygrisiau up to Cwmorthin, which is where you will find the abandoned slate mines of Rhosydd Quarry.  This is a beautiful walk for a photographer, the scenery is nothing short of stunning and the abandoned quarry ruins and houses are hauntingly striking.  From a distance, the mountains are breath-taking in their quiet beauty, but dig a little deeper and there is a treasure trove of secrets for you and your camera.  A glimpse of a noisy and destructive industrial era long left behind and an eerie peek into the hard life of a quarry miner in the mid nineteenth century.  From landscape, to macro, from capturing the movement of waterfalls to creating abstract images - this day out, walking with your camera will not disappoint.

While the initial first section of the path is a rocky steep incline it is relatively short and we will be stopping to shoot the waterfalls and slate formations, going very slowly as we make our way up.  Once we reach the first level there is Llyn Cwmorthin (Lake). A beautiful expanse of a water, nestling in a quiet valley. Here there are buildings and slate piles, reeds, water lilies, birds, something for everyone who likes to photograph in the natural environment.

As we will be starting this walk at 12.30 and not finishing until 7.30pm we will be making use of the best light for Landscape Photography.

Let's get creative in Chester!  Forget about the London A to Z, this Welshot Photographic Academy evening, based in Chester is all about looking for those often missed photo opportunities.  A to Z style!  From learning how to follow a commercial travel photography brief (think tourist brochure) to capturing images from our creative challenge this photography adventure will have you seeing. making and creating images using lead in lines, juxtapositions, reflections, a birds eye view and not to mention a snails point of view too.  Our base will be the Chester Crowne Plaza, which is where we will return to at the halfway point for our supper (chips included) and a chance to ask any questions, get some help and a review of the images before heading out again for the second part of the session.  You can also expect low-light and long exposures too as sunset will be 18:07.  So, grab your camera, bring your favourite lens and come join the Welshot gang for a fun, creative and productive Academy Evening in Chester.
