This Lighting Techniques for Studio Portraiture – Chester Photographic Academy Evening event is for all photography enthusiasts who are wanting to learn about photographic lighting.  During the evenings workshop you will be using mains studio lights and off camera flash. Learning about lighting, and how it works, is the single most important skill to have when when it comes to your portrait photography. Working with our Welshot Models you will try you hand at Rembrandt, butterfly, side and split lighting.  You will be using grids, modifiers and getting creative, learning to see (and shoot) in black and white and working with coloured gels. This studio mains and off camera flash photography workshop will be taking place at The Chester Crowne Plaza.

Tonight at the Welshot portfolio building session we are excited to have Emma Starmore-Smith joining us at the Creative Hub in Llandudno.  During this session, Emma, who loves a bit of “Big Dress Glam” when it comes to fashion, will be sporting a number of different looks with at least three costume/outfit changes.  You will be using studio mains, and off camera flash lighting techniques in the studio itself as well as using the buildings features to capture your portrait photos for your portfolio.  If the weather is suitable we may also go outdoors to make some funky, grungy and dynamic images.

Macro photography (or close-up photography) is a photographic genre that some people struggle with but at our Full Day photographic event, based in the Welshot Creative Hub in Llandudno, Team Welshot will take you through step by step of everything you need to do to create some stunning macro photography images. At this event we will be working with a wide variety of flowers, using natural, ambient and artificial light, which will ensure you will still get a day of photography regardless of the weather outside.  There will be ample opportunity for one to one tuition as well as in a small group setting where you can collaborate with others.  With a whole day of photography ahead of you, there will be plenty of time to get creative, experiment and make some stunning images which you can be proud of.

There will also be an opportunity to review your images and get some help with post processing / editing of your images if you wish.

After photographing the pier and bay, we will then move to West Shore and there you will find rock pools and sandy beaches with a backdrop of the Welsh hills and Anglesey in distance – from which the sun will set behind, hopefully giving us a wonderful golden hour, a colourful sunset and magnificent light in what photographers call the blue hour.  If you want to set yourself a bit of a photographic challenge - we've got just the one for you!

Off Camera Flash lighting, portrait photography and working with models in and around the Chester Crowne Plaza.  That's what our February Academy Evening is Chester is all about.  Our Models will be dressed in the latest of winter fashion and this is the perfect photography session for you to learn how to use your camera with off camera flash while making and creating some stunning portraits that you can be proud of.  Working outside (but undercover) on location as well as using some of the many features of the hotel - you will be able to make and create some stunning portraiture with a wide variety of backdrops.  Learn to throw your background out of focus, create bokeh and pose your models - we promise you, it won't just be off camera flash you are learning, honing your skills or developing your portfolio.  We can also promise you that you will go home with images you can be proud of.

At this fashion (1960's) photography event based at the Chester Crowne Plaza we will be using mains studio flash as well as off camera flash lighting to help you make images that you can be proud of.  Your models will be wearing the flamboyant clothing that this era was known for - from bright, bold prints and make-up to high heeled boots and beehive hairstyles! Shooting in a studio environment as well as using the hotel as your backdrop you will be working in small groups with one to one shooting time with your models.  Backdrops, props and a wide range of clothing will all be supplied by Welshot.  All you have to do is charge your batteries, grab your camera and come make some great photos.
