Liverpool Through a Different Lens – Urban Photography & Creative Storytelling Workshop

Liverpool Through a Different Lens – Urban Photography & Creative Storytelling Workshop
Liverpool is a city full of photographic possibilities, from its iconic waterfront and striking architecture to the quieter details, reflections, colours and everyday moments that often go unnoticed.
But what happens when we stop looking for the obvious photograph and start looking a little differently?
Join the Welshot Photographic Academy for a creative photography workshop in Liverpool, where we’ll explore the city with fresh eyes, develop our observation skills and discover how to tell stories through our photographs.
This isn’t simply a walk around Liverpool with a camera. It’s a practical, hands-on photography workshop designed to encourage you to experiment, explore new techniques and build confidence in your own photographic style.
Whether you’re relatively new to photography or have been enjoying your camera for years, there will be something to discover, learn and photograph.
What Will You Learn?
Throughout the workshop, Team Welshot, led by Eifion will offer practical guidance, demonstrations and individual support as we explore different approaches to urban photography and visual storytelling.
We will cover:
- Creative composition:
Using leading lines, framing, symmetry, negative space and unusual viewpoints to create stronger images. - Seeing the details:
Discovering interesting shapes, textures, colours, patterns and photographic opportunities that are easily overlooked. - Light and shadow:
Recognising how natural light influences the mood, atmosphere and storytelling potential of a photograph. - Reflections and perspectives:
Experimenting with windows, puddles, architecture and different viewpoints. - Visual storytelling:
Learning how to create a small collection of photographs that work together to tell a story. - Camera confidence:
Understanding how your camera settings can help you achieve the results you want.
There will also be a series of optional creative photographic challenges throughout the day, encouraging you to try something different and develop your photographic eye.
A City Full of Stories
Our photographic adventure will take us through some of Liverpool’s most interesting urban locations, including the waterfront, Royal Albert Dock and surrounding streets. We’ll look beyond the familiar landmarks to explore the smaller details and unexpected photographic opportunities that make a city so interesting.
You might find yourself photographing the contrast between old and new architecture, discovering reflections in shop windows, capturing a fleeting moment of city life or experimenting with an unusual composition.
The aim isn’t to return home with hundreds of photographs. It’s to return with images that you’ve thought about, experimented with and enjoyed creating.

Who Is This Workshop For?
This workshop is suitable for photographers of all abilities, from beginners wanting to feel more confident with their camera to experienced photographers looking for fresh inspiration.
You don’t need specialist equipment or previous experience of street photography. All you need is a camera, a little curiosity and a willingness to explore.
There’s one thing I’d take advantage of with the new date: the lovely low autumn light in November. With sunset in Liverpool around 4:25pm, the later part of the workshop should offer opportunities for atmospheric light, longer shadows and interesting reflections, weather permitting.
