Splash! – Creative Water, Movement & High-Speed Photography – Llandudno Photographic Academy Evening
Have you ever wondered how photographers capture a water droplet in mid-air, a splash in perfect detail, or the exact moment an object hits the surface of water? this November, we’re turning the Welshot Creative Hub into a mini high-speed photography studio for an evening of splashes, movement, lightins and creative experimentation.
Join Team Welshot for a fun, hands-on Llandudno Photographic Academy Evening as we explore how to freeze fast-moving subjects using camera settings, studio flash and a little bit of creative timing.
We’ll be experimenting with water droplets, splashes, falling objects and different lighting setups to discover how to capture those split-second moments that our eyes can barely see.
And the best bit? Things won’t always go according to plan – and that’s part of the fun!
Whether you’re relatively new to photography or have been using your camera for years, this is an opportunity to try something different, build your confidence and discover what happens when creativity meets technique.
During this practical photographic Academy Evening we’ll explore:
You’ll explore:
- Freezing movement: Discover the relationship between shutter speed, flash duration and capturing fast-moving subjects.
- Working with studio flash: Learn how short flash durations can freeze movement that would otherwise appear blurred.
- Camera settings: Understand how to use manual exposure, aperture, ISO and focusing techniques for high-speed photography.
- Timing the shot: Experiment with capturing droplets, splashes and objects at just the right moment.
- Lighting water and movement: Discover how different lighting positions and backgrounds change the appearance of splashes and droplets.
- Creative experimentation: Explore composition, colour, reflections and different ways of making your images stand out.
Throughout the evening, we’ll guide you through the techniques used to capture fast-moving subjects and create striking high-speed photographs. You’ll also learn why some techniques work better than others, how to troubleshoot common problems and how to adapt your approach as you experiment.
What you will be photographing?
You will create a selection of practical photography setups designed to help you experiment with movement, timing and light. Including water droplets falling into a container, objects creating splashes, suspended droplets and creative experiments using different backgrounds and lighting effects.
There will be plenty of opportunities to try different camera settings, compare results and make adjustments with all theguidance, help and support you’d like.
No two splashes are ever quite the same, so expect a few surprises along the way!
Who is this Academy Evening for?
Whether you’re a complete beginner, an enthusiastic hobbyist looking to try something new, or a more experienced photographer wanting to develop your skills and add something different to your portfolio, this Academy Evening is for you.
You don’t need any previous studio photography experience or specialist high-speed photography equipment. Just bring your camera, your curiosity and a willingness to experiment. Team Welshot will be on hand throughout the evening to help you understand the techniques, choose suitable camera settings and get the most from your photography, whatever your level of experience.
As with all Welshot Photographic Academy Evenings, you’ll be welcomed into a friendly, relaxed and supportive environment where asking questions, trying new things and learning through practical experience are all part of the fun.
There are no competitions, no pressure and certainly no expectation that every photograph will be perfect. It’s all about learning, experimenting, building confidence and, most importantly, enjoying your photography.
