Step into the heart of Liverpool with your camera in hand, ready to capture the essence of this vibrant city through the art of street and documentary photography. At Welshot, we believe that photography is more than just taking pictures, it’s about telling stories and documenting the moments that define our world. This workshop invites both beginner and experienced photographers to immerse themselves in the streets of Liverpool, where every corner offers new narratives waiting to be discovered.
Today’s adventure will take place around the Albert Dock and Museum areas and we will then make our way up through this unique city (did you know, Liverpool has the highest number of listed buildings outside London, so, perfect if you love architectural photography too!) towards the centre of Liverpool and finishing where we started in Liverpool One.
As we explore iconic landmarks, hidden streets, and the dynamic life of the city, the Welshot Team will help, support and guide you and you’ll learn how to capture the raw emotion, spontaneity, and authenticity of everyday life. Whether it’s the energy of the busy markets, the charm of the local people, or the timeless architecture, you’ll have the opportunity to hone your skills in capturing moments that resonate with meaning. Join us for a creative day of learning, exploration, and storytelling, all set against the backdrop of one of the UK’s most photogenic cities.

You Will Learn
- How to capture candid, unposed moments: You’ll learn how to capture raw, unposed moments that reveal the authenticity of street life, turning fleeting interactions and scenes into meaningful photographs that speak to the heart of human experience.
- How to shooting from the hip: A key technique in street photography, shooting from the hip allows you to discreetly capture the action without drawing attention to yourself. You’ll learn how to master this technique to create candid, dynamic images while staying immersed in the moment.
- How preserve the natural flow of the environment: Street photography is all about blending into the scene. You’ll discover how to take photos without disrupting the environment, allowing you to capture life as it happens naturally. This skill helps you avoid staging or manipulating scenes, resulting in authentic images.
- How to tell a story through documentary and reportage photography: You will develop an eye for storytelling, learning how to capture not just a single moment, but the larger narrative unfolding around you. You’ll gain an understanding of how to document life through photographs that convey deeper meanings and provoke thought.
- How to see and master black and white photography: Working in black and white is a powerful way to focus on composition, light, shadow, and texture. You’ll learn how to see and capture the world through the lens of monochrome photography, enhancing the emotional depth of your images.
- How to photograph strangers with confidence and respect: One of the most intimidating aspects of street photography is approaching strangers for portraits. You’ll be guided on how to do this with sensitivity and respect, learning techniques for engaging with people and capturing their essence in a way that feels authentic and genuine.
- How to turn ordinary moments into powerful photographs: Through keen observation and a creative eye, you’ll learn how to see beauty in the everyday. We’ll teach you how to notice the small details and compositions around you that often go unnoticed, helping you to transform ordinary moments into extraordinary photographs.
- How to develop new skills to increase your skill-set in different environments and situations: Whether you’re shooting on crowded streets, in quiet alleys, or in bustling markets, you’ll gain the skills to adapt to various environments and situations.

Whether you are a beginner to photography, a photographer who would like to try a new genre, learn a new technique or skill, or, a more advanced photographer who wants to build their image portfolio, you will be made welcome, and we would love to help you get the best out of your camera.
The Welshot Team will be at hand throughout this Street & Documentary Photography in Liverpool event to assist and help you get the best from your camera, so you can leave at the end of this session with memory cards full of beautiful photographs and great memories having learned a thing or three about photography and your camera.

10:35 – Welcome, information, and instructions
10:40 – Photography starts – 1:1 and Group Tuition will be provided

- This is an outdoors event. Please make sure you come dressed appropriately.
