Photographic Lighting Techniques for Portraiture – Studio Mains Flash, Off Camera Flash & Natural Light
Want to elevate your lighting for photography skills? This full-day workshop at the Welshot Creative Hub in Llandudno is designed for photographers of all levels who want to dive deep into the world of lighting techniques. Lighting is the cornerstone of every great portrait, and this workshop will give you the skills and confidence to master different lighting setups.
Throughout the day, you’ll work with a Welshot Model and gain hands-on experience using studio mains flash, off-camera flash, and natural light (on location and window light) to capture stunning portraits. You’ll learn to create dramatic effects with a range of lighting styles, including Rembrandt, butterfly, side, and split lighting. Team Welshot will guide you as you experiment with grids, modifiers, and coloured gels to add creativity and depth to your work.
We’ll also take you through the process of shooting in black and white, helping you understand how to see and manipulate light for powerful monochromatic images. And, of course, you’ll gain insights on using natural light to its fullest potential for portraits, ensuring you have a versatile lighting toolkit.
Whether you’re looking to refine your studio lighting or experiment with new techniques in a fun and friendly environment, this workshop offers everything you need to take your portrait photography to the next level. With a mix of technical know-how, creative exploration, and personalised feedback, you’ll leave with images you’ll be proud of and a new level of confidence in your lighting abilities.
