At Welshot

Support, guidance and a “Let’s try it and see what happens” attitude is always included at Welshot

When I’m (Lee) sitting at my desk and Eif is working in the Creative Hub with someone on a 1:1 or in a small group I always hear a certain conversation…

“Eif, I have an idea of an image I’d like to try and replicate/recreate – could you show me how please”

The answer is ALWAYS the same…

“Of course we can – this is your time to experiment, learn and play with your camera settings and lighting techniques”

Then we have Me! (Usually when I am asking for something really complex that’s been created in photoshop, and not in camera)

“Eif, I want to do this please”

“That won’t work Lee” He then goes into the many reasons why it won’t work, but he knows he’s lost me so…

“I tell you what Lee, let’s try it and see…

…and you will then see why it won’t work for yourself and you will be able to understand much better”.

True enough, we try it my way and I inevitably have to admit and say – “Oh, yeah, you’re right Eif, that won’t work will it”

Immediately he sees me getting despondent, frustrated and likely to risk giving up altogether which is when I hear those magic words I hear so often…

“But you could try it this way Lee” and he proceeds to show me HOW!

Or

“We could also do this, this, or this”

Support, guidance, and encouragement is a given…

And if that’s not enough – he then makes me (or whoever is in the Welshot Creative Hub at the time) practice, experiment and try other ways to help me improve on my original idea.

It happened yesterday – Eif was making sure some lighting techniques would work for our Moulin Rouge Themed Photo-Shoot that is taking place in a few days and I definitely saw that “Let’s try it and see what happens” attitude in action.

We had Lisa in the studio working on the final arrangements for our Pexels collaboration photo-walk in Llandudno and as we know Lisa is really keen to learn different photographic lighting techniques Eif asked if she would model for him – it then, as it always does, turned into a bit of a experimental sesh for both Lisa and I!

No matter how long you’ve been doing something, there is always something you can learn.

Getting your camera out of its bag, is half the battle.

Making time to practice and learning how to just ‘Suck & See it’ is the other half – it doesn’t have to be perfect, it doesn’t have to work first time, it’s how we all learn, by experimenting and seeing what works (and what doesn’t) – that’s why we love our 1:1 or small group sessions at Welshot.

Help, support, guidance and a ‘Lets Try It And See’ attitude is always included…

We’d love to know if you’ve got an idea or project you’d like to work on – either by yourself or in a small group.
