SUMMARY:Honey\, I Shrunk the Photographer! Miniature Worlds\, Big Ideas & Creative Photography – Full-Day Llandudno Photography Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Honey\, I Shrunk the Photographer!  Miniature Worlds\, Big Ideas & Creative Photography – Full-Day Llandudno Photography Workshop\nSmall worlds. Big ideas. No January blues!\nWhat better way to chase away those January blues than spending a whole day getting creative with your camera\, learning something new and having a little photographic fun along the way?  We’re kicking off the Welshot photographic year with something a little different\, and we can’t think of a better way to start 2027 than with a workshop that encourages you to use your imagination\, experiment with your camera and look at the world from a completely different perspective. \nAnd because Honey\, I Shrunk the Photographer! is our very first Welshot event of 2027\, we wanted to make it a little extra special. So\, as a New Year treat from Team Welshot\, we’re offering this full-day photography workshop for just £87 per person. \nThat’s a whole day of photography\, learning\, experimenting\, laughter and creative adventures\, with plenty of tea\, coffee and biscuits to keep you going! \nWelcome to honey\, I shrunk the photographer!\nHave you ever looked at an everyday object and wondered what it might look like if you were only a few centimetres tall? Imagine a tiny construction worker tackling an enormous biscuit\, miniature explorers making their way through a forest of broccoli\, or a little fisherman sitting beside what appears to be a giant lake\, which is actually nothing more than a cup of coffee! \nDuring this fun\, practical and hands-on photography workshop at the Welshot Creative Hub in Llandudno\, we’ll be creating miniature worlds\, experimenting with perspective and discovering how ordinary objects can become extraordinary photographic subjects. \nUsing miniature figures\, everyday household items\, interesting backgrounds and creative lighting\, we’ll explore how camera angles\, composition\, scale and depth of field can completely transform the way we photograph the world around us. From tiny people having enormous adventures to cleverly constructed scenes that play tricks on the eye\, you’ll discover how a little imagination and some practical camera techniques can create photographs that tell wonderful stories. \nAnd you don’t need to have tried miniature photography before! \nWhether you’re relatively new to photography\, enjoy experimenting with different subjects or you’re a more experienced photographer looking for something a little quirky to add to your portfolio\, this workshop will give you plenty of opportunities to learn\, experiment and have some fun with your camera. \nIt’s a small world after all!\nOne of the most exciting things about miniature photography is that it encourages us to look at familiar objects in completely different ways. Something as ordinary as a kitchen sponge can become a mountain\, a pile of sugar can resemble a snowy landscape\, and a simple teacup can provide the setting for an entire photographic adventure. \nBut creating convincing miniature photographs involves much more than simply placing a tiny figure next to a large object.  Throughout the day\, we’ll explore how the position of your camera\, the relationship between different objects\, the direction of the light and your choice of camera settings can make a huge difference to the finished photograph. You’ll discover how to create a sense of scale\, use depth of field creatively and make miniature scenes appear more realistic\, atmospheric or wonderfully surreal. \nWe’ll also experiment with forced perspective\, a technique that uses camera position and the placement of objects to create clever optical illusions\, making subjects appear much larger\, smaller\, closer or further away than they really are.  And\, perhaps most importantly\, we’ll encourage you to use your imagination\, try different approaches and discover that sometimes the most interesting photographs come from the simplest ideas. \n \nWhat You will learn\nDuring this practical full-day photography workshop\, we’ll explore: \n\nMiniature Photography & Scale: Discover how to combine miniature figures with everyday objects to create imaginative photographic scenes where ordinary items become extraordinary environments.\nUnderstanding Perspective: Learn how camera position\, shooting angles and the placement of objects can completely change the way we perceive size\, scale and distance within a photograph.\nForced Perspective Techniques: Explore how to create clever optical illusions by carefully positioning subjects and using your camera to make objects appear larger\, smaller or closer together than they actually are.\nDepth of Field & Focusing: Understand how aperture\, focusing distance and lens choice affect the amount of your photograph that appears sharp\, and how to use these settings creatively when photographing small subjects.\nCreative Lighting & Shadows: Experiment with different light sources\, lighting angles and shadows to add depth\, atmosphere and realism to your miniature scenes.\nComposition & Visual Storytelling: Learn how to arrange miniature figures\, props and backgrounds to create photographs that tell a story\, suggest movement or capture a moment in time.\nCreating Miniature Environments: Discover how simple household objects\, textures\, materials and backgrounds can be transformed into convincing photographic landscapes and settings.\nCreative Experimentation: Develop your confidence in trying new ideas\, solving photographic challenges and discovering how small adjustments to your camera settings\, lighting or composition can make a big difference to your images.\n\nWhat will You be photographing?\nThroughout the day\, we’ll have a selection of miniature figures\, everyday objects\, props and creative photographic setups for you to experiment with.  You might find yourself photographing miniature construction workers tackling a giant biscuit\, tiny adventurers exploring an unusual landscape\, or little characters going about their daily lives in a world where everything around them appears enormous. \nWe’ll begin with prepared scenes that allow you to concentrate on your camera settings\, lighting and composition\, before giving you the opportunity to experiment with different objects\, create your own miniature environments and develop your own photographic stories.  Then as your confidence grows\, we’ll introduce more creative challenges\, including forced perspective\, unusual viewpoints and ways of making miniature scenes appear more convincing. \nYou might choose to create something realistic\, something funny\, something mysterious or something completely unexpected. There’ll be plenty of time to review your photographs\, ask questions\, make adjustments and try again\, because sometimes moving your camera just a few centimetres can completely transform the image. \nAnd remember\, you don’t need to create an elaborate miniature world to make an interesting photograph. \nSometimes all it takes is one tiny figure\, an everyday object and a little imagination! \nWho is this workshop for?\nThis full-day photography workshop is suitable for photographers of all abilities\, from complete beginners who want to become more confident using their cameras to experienced photographers looking to develop their creative skills or add something different to their portfolios. You don’t need any previous experience of miniature photography\, forced perspective or working with studio lighting. \nIf you’re still learning how aperture\, shutter speed and ISO work together\, we’ll help you understand which settings to use and why. If you’re already comfortable with your camera\, you’ll have opportunities to experiment with more advanced techniques\, creative lighting\, unusual compositions and imaginative photographic storytelling. \nYou don’t need a specialist macro lens or expensive photographic equipment to take part\, and we’ll have a selection of miniature figures\, props and backgrounds available for you to use throughout the day.  As with all Welshot photography workshops\, the emphasis is on learning through practical experience in a friendly\, relaxed and supportive environment. \nThere are no competitions\, no pressure and certainly no expectation that every photograph will be perfect. We’re here to help you learn\, build confidence\, try something new and enjoy your photography alongside other people who love being creative with their cameras. \nEvent schedule\n10:30 – Meet at the Welshot Creative Hub – 16 Trinity Square\, Llandudno\n10:40 – Photography begins\, with practical demonstrations exploring scale\, perspective\, camera angles and depth of field\, followed by opportunities to photograph a selection of prepared miniature scenes.\n11:30 – Practical photography continues\, with creative lighting\, composition and storytelling techniques. SUMMARY:Dance & Movement Photography – Capturing Motion\, Energy & Expression – Llandudno Photographic Academy Evening
DESCRIPTION:Dance & Movement Photography – Capturing Motion\, Energy & Expression – Llandudno Photographic Academy Evening\nHave you ever tried photographing someone dancing\, only to discover that capturing movement isn’t quite as easy as it looks? Perhaps your images were blurred when you wanted them sharp\, or maybe you’ve wondered how photographers create those beautiful images where movement\, light and expression all come together. \nThis February\, we’re bringing dance and movement photography to the Welshot Creative Hub in Llandudno for a practical\, creative and hands-on Photographic Academy Evening\, where you’ll have the opportunity to experiment with different techniques\, develop your camera skills and discover exciting new ways to photograph people in motion. \nWorking with a dancer\, we’ll explore how shutter speed\, lighting\, timing and composition can completely change the look and feel of a photograph. From freezing a split-second movement to deliberately introducing motion blur for a more artistic effect\, you’ll discover that there’s more than one way to capture movement in camera. \nAnd you don’t need to have photographed dance before! \nWhether you’re relatively new to photography\, enjoy portrait photography and fancy trying something different\, or you’re a more experienced photographer looking to add creative movement images to your portfolio\, this Academy Evening will give you plenty of opportunities to learn\, experiment and have some fun with your camera. \nIt’s not just about freezing the action!\nOne of the most exciting things about dance photography is that movement can be photographed in so many different ways.  A perfectly timed photograph can capture a dancer suspended in mid-air\, while a slower shutter speed can transform the very same movement into something soft\, flowing and abstract.  Neither approach is right or wrong. They’re simply different ways of telling a story through photography. \nThroughout the evening\, we’ll explore both technical and creative approaches to photographing dance\, helping you understand not only which camera settings to use\, but why you might choose one technique over another.  We’ll also look at how the position of your subject\, the direction of the light\, your composition and even the smallest changes in timing can make a big difference to your finished photograph. \n \nWhat You will learn?\nDuring this practical Llandudno Photographic Academy Evening\, we’ll explore: \n\nFreezing movement: Learn how to capture sharp\, dynamic photographs of a dancer in motion\, using suitable camera settings and lighting techniques.\nCreative motion blur: Discover how slower shutter speeds can be used deliberately to introduce a sense of movement\, energy and atmosphere into your photographs.\nUnderstanding shutter speed: Explore how different shutter speeds affect the appearance of movement and how to choose settings to achieve your creative vision.\nFocusing on moving subjects: Practise focusing techniques and camera settings that can help you achieve sharper photographs when your subject isn’t standing still.\nWorking with studio lighting: Discover how light can help define shape\, form and movement\, and how different lighting techniques can change the mood of an image.\nComposition and timing: Learn how to anticipate movement\, choose your shooting position and capture those fleeting moments that make a photograph stand out.\nCapturing expression and storytelling: Explore how body language\, movement and facial expression can communicate emotion and tell a story without words.\nCreative experimentation: Try different techniques\, compare your results and discover new ways to approach movement photography.\n\nWhat You will be photographing?\nOur dancer will provide a moving subject for you to practise a variety of photographic techniques\, from controlled poses and movements through to more dynamic sequences.  We’ll work through different approaches to capturing dance and movement\, giving you the opportunity to experiment with shutter speeds\, camera settings\, lighting and composition. \nYou might choose to concentrate on capturing beautifully sharp images\, experiment with more abstract and artistic movement\, or try a combination of both.  There will be time to review your images\, ask questions\, make adjustments and try again\, because sometimes it’s those little changes that make the biggest difference. \nAnd remember\, not every photograph needs to be perfectly sharp to be a successful photograph. \nSometimes a little movement is exactly what makes an image interesting! \nWho is this Academy Evening for?\nThis Academy Evening is suitable for photographers of all abilities\, from complete beginners who want to become more confident using their cameras to experienced photographers looking to develop their creative skills or add something different to their portfolios.  You don’t need any previous experience of dance photography\, studio lighting or photographing moving subjects. \nIf you’re still learning how shutter speed\, aperture and ISO work together\, we’ll help you understand which settings to use and why. If you’re already comfortable with your camera\, you’ll have opportunities to experiment with more advanced techniques and creative approaches.  As with all Welshot Photographic Academy Evenings\, the emphasis is on learning through practical experience in a friendly\, relaxed and supportive environment. \nThere are no competitions\, no pressure and certainly no expectation that every photograph will be perfect.  We’re here to help you learn\, build confidence\, try something new and enjoy your photography alongside other people who love being creative with their cameras. \nEvent schedule\n18:30 – Meet at the Welshot Creative Hub – 16 Trinity Square\, Llandudno\n18:35 –Photography begins\, with practical demonstrations\, group guidance and one-to-one tuition.\n20:00 – Short break – time to grab yourself a hot/cold drink\n20:30 – Photography continues\, with opportunities to explore different camera settings\, lighting techniques and creative approaches.\n22:00 – Finish \n \nWhat should you bring?\n\nYour camera\, ideally one that allows you to adjust shutter speed\, aperture and ISO.\nYour favourite portrait lens\, a 50mm lens or a standard zoom lens. (There’s no need to buy anything specifically for this event)\nFully charged camera batteries and a spare if you have one.\nMemory cards with plenty of available space.\nA tripod\, if you have one and would like to experiment with slower shutter speeds.\nAny questions about your camera or photography that you’d like help with.\nAnd\, of course\, your curiosity and willingness to try something different!\n\nDon’t worry if you’re unsure which lens or equipment would be most suitable.
